Bamboo, symbol of utility and commonly known as "the friend of China,"
is the inspiration for this teapot of black zisha with beige accents.
Spout, handle and finial are shaped to resemble bamboo canes, and the body
of the pot looks like a large trunk of spotted bamboo. Of the ten species,
the spotted bamboo is said to be marked with the tears of the two consorts
of the Emperor Shun as they wept over his tomb in the land of Ts'ang-wa.
Bamboo is also an emblem of longevity owing to its durability, and to the
fact that it is evergreen and flourishes throughout the winter.
